To play Saturday lotto, you have to purchase a QuickPick ticket with six randomly generated numbers, or a Marked entry ticket, where you choose the six numbers yourself. You have to select six numbers from between 1 and 45. Saturday lotto is held every Saturday at 7.30pm AEST (8.30pm AEDT) and the results are updated on our website shortly after. The entries close on Saturdays at 7:25 pm AEST (8:25 pm AEDT).
Regardless of the lottery name or the state in which it is played, it has the same rules. Lotto randomly draws eight balls from a pool of 45 balls. The first six numbers are the main numbers and the last two are supplementary, these supplementary numbers are used to determine prizes in Divisions 2, 5 and 6. There are six prize divisions, to win the main prize, you have to match the six main numbers. In other five prize tiers you could win with matching as little as one or two main numbers and two supplementary numbers.
How to improve chances of winning?
Firstly you need to decide the way you want to play (QuickPick or Marked entry). If you decide to play a Marked entry, this allows you to pick more numbers - you can choose from 7 to 20 numbers. This gives you more chances to win. Otherwise, if you choose a Pick entry, this brings you either one or two winning numbers. You can also syndicate, it means that you can play as a group to purchase bigger entries, and bigger entries mean more chances of winning. Syndicates can be set up in-store or online, for that you need to use a SyndiMate, the Lott’s syndicate planner.
Saturday Lotto prizes
Saturday Lotto prizes are calculated on a pari-mutuel basis, which means they are dependent upon ticket sales and the number of winners in a given division. The six prize tiers, along with their odds of winning and the percentage of the prize pool they each receive, are shown in the table below:
Saturday lotto odds | |||
Division | Winning Combination | Division Odds | Percentage of Prize Pool |
---|---|---|---|
#1 | 6 numbers | 1 in 8,145,060 | 28.0% |

If no one matches all numbers, the jackpot rolls over to the next game. The main prize can roll over up to four times, after that, if there is no winner, the prize is shared by players in Division 2.
Saturday lotto has a regular “Superdraws” with jackpots of $20 million taking place 6-7 times a year. In addition, there are “Megadraws” with jackpots of $30 million taking place around Christmas.
