Powerball Number Statistics and Draw Trends

These statistics count how often each Powerball number has appeared across the draws in our database. Main numbers are drawn from a pool of 35 and the Powerball from a separate pool of 20, so the two are counted independently and their frequencies are not comparable. Each draw is an independent event: how often a number has appeared before has no bearing on whether it appears next.

Two separate rankings appear here, because Powerball draws from two pools: seven main numbers out of 35, and the Powerball out of 20. A main number and a Powerball with the same frequency count are not comparable, since each has had a different number of chances to appear. Within each ranking, the numbers at the top have been drawn most often over the selected period.

Pair counts here cover main numbers only; the Powerball is excluded, since it comes from a separate pool and cannot form a pair in the same sense. Each Powerball draw yields 21 main-number pairs, so these totals climb faster than the single-number counts on the previous tab. The figures record what has occurred, nothing more.

A Powerball main number goes an average of five draws between appearances, but averages hide the shape of the distribution: gaps of fifteen or twenty draws happen regularly, and a number occasionally disappears for a good deal longer. Nothing accumulates during that absence. The next draw treats a number missing for thirty weeks exactly as it treats one drawn last Thursday.
